Project director Pastor Abe in bad accident
It is with a heavy heart that I would like to share with you that our dedicated Supporting Cambodia project director Pastor Abe has been involved in a serious roadside accident in a remote part of the country and has been conveyed to hospital in Siem Reap.
The accident occurred in an outlying area when Abe stopped his car and got out, only to be run down seconds later by a passing motorbike travelling at high speed.
While further testing and scans are yet to be done, at this stage the doctors have confirmed he has two fractured arms and deep lacerations to his leg and head.
I have been in contact with our project team in Cambodia and we are putting together a plan to support Abe and his family at this very challenging time.
I'll keep you posted as events unfold.
Thanks for your ongoing support and encouragement.
Rob
UPDATE: 17th November 2025
A bit of an update on our project director Pastor Abe following the bad accident that saw him hospitalised last week after being hit by a motorbike on a remote road in northern Cambodia.
After initially being admitted to Siem Reap hospital, he has since been transferred to a hospital in the country's capital, Phnom Penh, where medical care is much better (relatively speaking) and he is close to his family.
His list of identified injuries is growing, with four broken ribs being added to his two broken arms, deep lacerations to his leg and head and suspected internal injuries. He underwent surgery late last week on one of his broken arms so a metal plate could be inserted and at this stage it would appear this went well.
I'd like to offer my heartfelt gratitude to all the encouraging messages we have been receiving for Abe and especially those of you who have made contributions to his treatment and recovery. He has a long road ahead of him, but we are committed to making it as smooth a journey for him and his family as possible.
Take care,
Rob
UPDATE: 21st November 2025
I'm pleased to be able to share with you that our project director Pastor Abe is making good progress with his rehabilitation after his accident in a remote province last week. He has been discharged from hospital and is at home being cared for by his family.
His mobility is extremely limited and he is in a significant amount of pain, but his wounds appear to be healing as well as can be expected so he is on the road to recovery.
I spoke with Abe a couple of days ago and he shared a bit more about his accident. It occurred after dark on a remote road not far from our school in Oddar Meanchey. He was returning to his car on an unlit section of road when he was struck from behind by a motorbike travelling at high speed.
Abe says he accepts some of the blame for what happened as, in hindsight, he could have chosen a better place to park. It turns out the young man on the motorbike was running late to get some produce to the market for his family so is just as much a victim in this as Abe. With this in mind we have committed to cover his medical expenses as well and pay to get his bike back on the road as his family are very poor.
Abe would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and offers of support. He and his family have been overwhelmed by the care and compassion that has been extended to them during this really difficult time.
Take care,
Rob
